Portland’s new Focused Intervention Team still has 10 spots to fill amid rising gun violence in the city since last year’s months-long Black Lives Matter protests.
After the tragic death of George Floyd on May 25, 2020 the whole United States was took over by Black Lives Matter protests in fight for Equality and Justice. That was the beginning of a turbulent summer 2020 where New York City experienced hundreds of protests and NYPD was criticized for its brutality. Every Saturday there was a bike protest riding through different boroughs and chanting “Black Lives Matter”. This Justice Ride started in Financial District and thousands of cyclists, dressed in green, launched a peaceful ride through Manhattan and finished their protest at dusk in Brooklyn.
Jonathan Daley, 27, kicked the police officer in the thighduring a Black Lives Matter protest in June 2020. He was spared jail and handed a suspended sentence.

A young white police officer in suburban Dallas is under investigation after a Black woman accused him of brutalizing her teenage daughter for “simply walking home” in Forney, Texas.
A video shows Travis Moya, a handcuffed Black man, suffering gruesome injuries after having a police dog sicced on him during a mental health crisis in Alpharetta, Georgia. His lawyers said they plan to sue.
